Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: September 23, 2026

Artwello is a tool for making things by hand. This policy sets out the small number of uses we do not allow, and what happens if someone ignores them. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

The short version

Upload pictures you have the right to use. Do not use the service to hurt, deceive or exploit anyone. Do not attack the service or try to get around what you have paid for.

Everything below is a worked-out version of those three sentences.

Content you must not upload or generate

  • Anything sexual involving a minor, or that sexualises a person who appears to be a minor. There is no exception, no artistic defence, and no warning: accounts are closed immediately and reports are made to the competent authorities.
  • Sexually explicit material generally, and content whose purpose is shock or gratuitous gore.
  • Content that incites or glorifies violence, terrorism, or self-harm.
  • Content that attacks or demeans people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
  • Images of identifiable people used to harass, humiliate, threaten or sexualise them, including intimate images shared without the subject's consent.
  • Material you do not have the rights to: someone else's photograph, artwork, or a character, logo or brand you do not own or have permission to use.
  • Anything else that is illegal where you are, or where we operate.

Photographs of other people

Most portraits people upload are of family and friends, and that is exactly what the tool is for. Two rules keep it that way.

Upload a recognisable photograph of another person only if they have agreed, or if they are your own child in your care. Photographs of children require the consent of a parent or guardian.

Do not use the service to create a misleading likeness of a real person: putting someone into a scene they were never in, or generating a portrait presented as a genuine photograph of them. Making a coloring page from a photo of your friend is fine. Fabricating a scene to embarrass them is not.

How you must not use the service

  • Automated generation beyond ordinary personal use: scripting the interface, hammering the preview endpoint, or running many accounts in parallel. Making a book of pages with the built-in batch feature is ordinary use.
  • Building a competing pattern service, catalogue or dataset from Artwello output, or using our output to train a machine-learning model.
  • Reselling, rebranding or sublicensing access to Artwello itself. Selling the patterns you generate is allowed and encouraged; selling the generator is not.
  • Sharing one account between people who should each have their own, or reselling access to your account.
  • Working around credits, rate limits, plan boundaries or access controls, including tampering with requests, replaying payment webhooks, or exploiting a bug instead of reporting it.
  • Probing, scanning or attacking our infrastructure or that of our providers, and any attempt to gain access to another user's account or files.
  • Uploading malware, or using the service to distribute it.
  • Impersonating Artwello, or presenting yourself as connected with us when you are not.

Finding a security problem

If you discover a vulnerability, tell us at [email protected] before telling anyone else, and give us a reasonable chance to fix it. Do not access, alter or download other users' data while investigating, and do not run tests that degrade the service for other people. We will not pursue anyone who reports a genuine issue in good faith and within those limits.

Reporting a violation

To report content or behaviour that breaks this policy, email [email protected] with enough detail to identify what you are reporting: a link, an account, or a description of what you saw, and why you believe it breaks the rules.

Copyright complaints have a separate, formal procedure with its own requirements: see Copyright & Takedown.

We read every report. Where a report concerns material involving a child, we act on it immediately and ahead of everything else.

What we do about violations

Our response is proportionate to what happened. For a first, minor or apparently accidental breach we normally get in touch first and ask you to put it right. For serious breaches (anything illegal, anything involving a child, deliberate abuse of another person, or an attack on the service) we suspend the account immediately and without prior notice.

  • Removing the content in question.
  • Suspending the ability to generate while we look into it.
  • Closing the account permanently.
  • Refusing a refund, where the breach was deliberate or illegal (see Payment, Delivery & Refunds).
  • Reporting the matter to law enforcement where the law requires it or the seriousness warrants it.

If you think we got it wrong

Enforcement decisions are made by people, and people make mistakes. If your account or content was actioned and you believe that was wrong, reply to the notice we sent you or write to [email protected] and explain. We will look again, and we will tell you the outcome.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service grows and as new kinds of misuse appear. The date at the top shows the current version.
