A real result at the youngest level: thick outlines and big shapes a child can colour.

For kids

Their pet, their house, their day

A child will colour a generic cartoon cat for five minutes. Give them a page of their own cat, their bike or their grandma's garden and they will take it to the table, sign it and stick it on the fridge.

Upload any photo from your phone and choose how simple the page should be. The youngest level uses very thick outlines and a few big shapes, so a three-year-old can stay inside the lines; older kids can have more detail to work into.

  • Pets come out well: fur, ears and faces are redrawn as clean shapes, not traced noise.
  • Their own drawing: photograph a child's sketch and get it back as a clean page to colour again.
  • The detail fits the age, whatever the art style.

For families

The whole family on one page

Family coloring pages are better when the family is yours. Upload a group photo and everyone, dog included, is redrawn where they were standing, so the page still looks like you.

They make a cheap, personal gift and an easy party activity: print a stack for a birthday table, slip one into a card for the grandparents, or colour the holiday photo together on a rainy afternoon.

  • Gifts: a page of the grandchildren, coloured in by the grandchildren.
  • Birthday parties: the birthday child as a page for every guest to colour.
  • Holidays: last summer's beach photo as this winter's quiet afternoon.

Coloring pages for adults, as detailed as you like

Adult coloring is at its best with a picture you care about and enough detail to lose an evening in. Turn a wedding photo, a favourite walk or your pet into a page with fine interior lines, ready for gel pens or sharp pencils.

Choose an art style to match: mandala, botanical, stained glass or sketch, among 9. The Detailed and Intricate levels fill the page with linework while keeping every area closed, so colour stays where you put it.

  • 9 styles, from cute and simple to mandala and stained glass.
  • Fine detail on request, set separately from the style.
  • Print on good paper: A4, Letter or A3 at high resolution.

For grandparents

Simple pages from the photos that matter

Coloring pages for seniors don't have to be childish. Make a page from an old wedding photo, a first house or a family holiday, at the Easy level, with bold outlines and large areas that are comfortable for older eyes and hands.

A familiar picture gives people something to talk about while they colour. Print it on A3 if fine detail is hard to see, and colour it together.

  • Bold, simple outlines, not the dense patterns of most adult coloring books.
  • Print it big: A3 makes every area larger and easier to reach.
  • A reason to sit together: the photo starts the story, the page keeps hands busy.

Not sure which colors? See it finished

Any page you make can come back colored in as well, laid inside the lines the page already has. Keep it as a reference to colour against, or print the finished version for the frame.

When the page comes from a photo, the original goes along too, so the colors come back close to what was really there. Coloring a page in is available with any plan or credit pack.

Or just pick a page

Not every evening needs a new page. The coloring page catalogue holds pages other people have made and chosen to publish, sorted by style and detail level, from simple animals for kids to intricate mandalas.

And if you have an idea but no photo, describe it in a sentence and Artwello will draw the page for you.

Why people colour

What the research says about coloring

Coloring is not therapy, and most studies are small. But a handful of careful trials have measured what an evening with a page actually does.

  1. In a randomised study of 104 young women, a week of daily coloring lowered reported anxiety and depressive symptoms; a logic-puzzle group showed no such drop. The authors call the evidence preliminary.

Flett, Lie, Riordan, Thompson, Conner & Hayne (2017). Sharpen your pencils: preliminary evidence that adult coloring reduces depressive symptoms and anxiety. Creativity Research Journal 29(4).
  2. In an early experiment with students, twenty minutes of coloring a patterned design lowered anxiety, while free drawing on a blank page did not.

Curry & Kasser (2005). Can coloring mandalas reduce anxiety?. Art Therapy 22(2).
  3. In a trial with 120 adults aged 55 to 75, the group that coloured mandalas had lower anxiety than a group that read instead.

Koo, Chen & Yeh (2020). Coloring activities for anxiety reduction and mood improvement in Taiwanese community-dwelling older adults: a randomized controlled study. Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
  4. Coloring is not meditation: one study found guided coloring reduced anxiety but did not make people more mindful. The calm seems to come from focused, hands-on activity itself.

Mantzios & Giannou (2018). When did coloring books become mindful? Exploring the effectiveness of a novel method of mindfulness-guided instructions for coloring books. Frontiers in Psychology 9.
  5. For people living with dementia, a Cochrane review found reminiscence work with personal memories has small, inconsistent benefits for mood and communication. Coloring was not tested, and no study shows it slows dementia.

FAQ

Questions about personalized coloring pages

What is a personalized coloring page?+

A coloring page made from your own photo or idea instead of a stock drawing: your child, your pet, your family or a place you know, redrawn as black-and-white line art ready to print and colour.

Can I make custom coloring pages for free?+

Yes, to start: you get 10 credits when you sign up, with no card, enough for 3 pages. After that a page costs 3 credits.

What kind of photo works best?+

A clear, well-lit photo where the faces or the main subject are reasonably large. Busy backgrounds are simplified, and you can choose how much detail the page keeps.

Which detail level is right for my child?+

For toddlers and preschoolers, the Kids or Easy level: very thick lines and big areas. Older children usually like Standard; adults tend to pick Detailed or Intricate.

Will the people on the page still look like themselves?+

On the true-to-photo method everyone is drawn where they were photographed, so the page lines up with the original and stays recognisable. Other styles redraw the picture more freely.

What size can I print?+

There are 10 sheet sizes, including A4, US Letter, A5 and A3. The page is drawn for the sheet you choose, and you download a PDF and a high-resolution PNG.

Who can see my family photos?+

Only you. Uploads and pages are private to your account, are never used to train AI models, and appear in the public catalogue only if you choose to publish a page.

Can I sell the personalized pages I make?+

For your own use, print and share what you make as you like. To sell it or use it for a business, write to us first and we will sort out the right terms.
